Tintagel Castle, Rocky Valley and Boscastle (2 October 2009)

Tintagel Castle

Castle situated on a rocky headland, with narrow, steep access. The ruins date back to the 1300s ... although the site is probably older.

These ruins are on the headland, although the grassy area in the top left forms part of the ruins on the mainland. Note the foundation ruins in the foreground.

Archway.

Foundation ruins on the headland part of Tintagel Castle. The bay has a number of sea caves, a small beach, and a creek plunges into it down a 10m high waterfall.

Not so ruined. This section is only 150 or so years old (and it's my guess that the door is almost certainly younger still).

Tunnel on the headland. There aren't any ruins immediately adjacent to this, and no one is entirely sure what it was used for (a cool store is one hypothesis). It's about 15m long and it's about tall enough to stand up in it.

Other Things

Mill/accommodation at the start of my Rocky Valley meets the sea walk.

Where Rocky Valley meets the sea.

Two waterfalls just before Rocky Valley meets the sea (there are two people at the top middle right, which should give a sense of scale).

Some of the buildings in the village of Boscastle. Five years ago there was a massive flood and the creek damaged some of the buidlings in the background.
